L'introduction de la BDD donne
des indications sur son contenu :"This database is intended to serve as
an introduction to the huge body of environmental legislation which has
been implemented in Europe over the past twenty years or so....It looks
at Directives and Regulations governing the control of pollution and conservation
issues in seven main areas : air, water, waste, noise, chemicals, nature
and agriculture. In addition to examining the most important pieces of
legislation controlling emissions and waste, the database briefly discusses
the state of our waterbodies and air, what has been done to protect them,
what could be done to further improve them...."

UNEP Chemicals is the center
for all chemicals-related activities of the United Nations Environment
Programme. Our goal is to make the world a safer place from toxic chemicals.
We do this by helping governments take needed global actions for
the sound management of chemicals, by promoting the exchange of information
on chemicals, and by helping to build the capacities of countries around
the world to use chemicals safely.

Procédure d'information
et de consentement préalables (ICP) dans le cas de certaines substances
chimiques dangereuses qui font l'objet du commerce international . Son
objectif est de réglementer les importations de substances chimiques
dangereuses qui sont interdites ou strictement contrôlées.
La procédure ICP permet aux pays participants de mieux connaître
les caractéristiques des substances chimiques potentiellement dangereuses
qui pourraient leur être envoyées, de décider eux-mêmes
des futures importations de ces substances chimiques et de faire connaître
cette décision aux autres pays. Il s'agit d'encourager les pays
exportateurs et les pays importateurs à assumer ensemble la responsabilité
de protéger la santé et l'environnement contre les
effets néfastes de certaines substances chimiques dangereuses qui
font l'objet du commerce international.

The mission of the Agency for
Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), as an agency of the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, is to prevent exposure and adverse
human health effects and diminished quality of life associated with exposure
to hazardous substances from waste sites, unplanned releases, and other
sources of pollution present in the environment.Its functions include public
health assessments of waste sites, health consultations concerning specific
hazardous substances, health surveillance and registries, response to emergency
releases of hazardous substances, applied research in support of public
health assessments, information development and dissemination, and education
and training concerning hazardous substances..
